This World Natural Wonder is where the vibrant green of the Atlantic Rainforest meets the thunder of countless cascades. For scale, Iguazú Falls are almost twice as tall as Niagara Falls and significantly wider, though Africa’s Victoria Falls is taller. Its most iconic feature is the Devil’s Throat (Garganta del Diablo)—a dramatic U-shaped gorge 150 meters wide and 700 meters long, where 14 massive waterfalls plunge more than 80 meters (260 feet), filling the air with mist, thunder, and brilliant rainbows.
Iguazú Falls are protected within two national parks: Iguazú National Park in Argentina (Puerto Iguazú) and Iguaçu National Park in Brazil (Foz do Iguaçu). Together, they safeguard the largest continuous remaining block of Atlantic Rainforest in the world, making this area not only visually spectacular, but ecologically priceless.
There’s one question almost every visitor asks: which side is better? The answer is simple—both. From Brazil, you admire the Falls like a masterpiece in a gallery; from Argentina, you are inside the painting.
On the Argentine side, Iguazú National Park offers the most immersive experience, with approximately 10 km (6 miles) of walkways that lead visitors astonishingly close to the cascades. The panoramic views are breathtaking, and the Devil’s Throat defies description— “unbelievable” is often the only word that fits. Those who have stood there know they are witnessing a truly extraordinary natural theater.
One of the park’s most remarkable inhabitants is the Great Dusky Swift (Cypseloides senex), the symbolic bird of Iguazú National Park and featured on its official emblem. This highly specialized species completes its entire life cycle around the waterfalls, nesting behind the cascades and clinging to wet rock faces with short, specially adapted legs. Its family name, Apodidae, comes from Latin meaning “without feet”, reflecting its extreme aerial lifestyle. Although they resemble swallows due to convergent evolution, swifts belong to a completely different family.
This Iguazú Up Close experience allows you to feel the mist on your skin, hear the roar of the water, and walk rainforest trails alive with butterflies, tropical birds, coatis, and monkeys. Guided by a local expert, you will uncover the hidden stories and living voices of Iguazú—from ancient legends and native wildlife to the ecological importance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
From the Brazilian side, visitors enjoy sweeping panoramic views and access to waterfalls hidden from Argentina, particularly those behind the San Martín Island peninsula. The walkways are easy and pleasant, and from beginning to end, the experience is nothing short of awe-inspiring—a true natural masterpiece.
For thrill-seekers, both sides offer speedboat adventures that take you straight to the base of the falls. Getting soaked is guaranteed—literally bathing in the power of Iguazú—and is part of the unforgettable fun.
Whether you arrive as an explorer, a nature lover, or simply to feel the soul of the Falls, you will leave with a deep connection to one of the most magnificent places on Earth.
